About the Journal

Identity & Mission

Technology Progress & Scientific Scholarship (TPSS) is an international, open-access journal that serves as a premier scholarly forum for integrative research at the nexus of technological innovation and all established fields/domains of human knowledge. It operates on the core belief that profound technological advancement is inseparable from deep scholarly reflection across all academic fields.

Dual Core Mission

The journal invites contributions that fulfill one of two primary goals:

  1. To Develop or Apply Technology: Research that leverages or advances technologies (e.g., AI, biotech, robotics) to generate new knowledge, solve complex problems, or create novel methodologies within any academic field.

  2. To Critically Examine Technology: Scholarship that critically interrogates the societal, ethical, historical, economic, philosophical, and cultural contexts and consequences of technological change.

Structural Framework: Six Core Fields and 39 Domains

TPSS is uniquely organized into six major academic fields, each dedicated to exploring its distinct relationship with technology. This structure champions interdisciplinary work that bridges traditional silos, while our dedicated cross-disciplinary section explicitly fosters work that transcends them, together fostering a holistic understanding of technological progress.

The following table summarizes the journal's overarching fields/domains and their key disciplinary focus areas:

Field Core Focus & Key Domains
TP & Social Sciences Examines the bidirectional relationship between technological change and social structures, behaviors, and institutions. (Business/Finance/Management, Communication, Economics, Education, Sociology, Political Science, Psychology)
TP & Physical Sciences Publishes research where technological innovation drives discovery in the fundamental physical sciences, and where scientific insights inspire new technologies. (Agricultural Science, Astronomy & Space Science, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Mathematics, Physics)
TP & Humanities Fosters critical humanistic inquiry into the foundations, meanings, and implications of technology through historical, philosophical, ethical, and cultural lenses. (Anthropology, Archaeology, Cultural Studies, History, Musicology, Linguistics, Literature, Philosophy, Religious Studies)
TP & Medicine Dedicated to translational research at the interface of technology and health, spanning from bench to bedside to population. (Basic & Clinical Medicine, Biomedical Techniques, Dentistry, Life Science, Nursing, Pharmacology, Public Health & Epidemiology)
TP & Engineering Focuses on the principled design, development, and application of technologies to address practical challenges, emphasizing innovation and sustainable solutions. (Architectural, Chemical, Civil, Computer Science, Electrical, Industrial, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering)
Inter-, Cross-, and Trans-disciplinary Studies Serves as the premier forum for research that fundamentally transcends or integrates traditional disciplinary boundaries, creating novel frameworks for understanding technological complexity.

Ultimate Aim

By cultivating dialogue across and beyond disciplines, TPSS aims to inform a more reflexive, equitable, and socially engaged trajectory for technological development in the 21st century.
